POSTMODERNPARCEL!

A Postal Experiment

So since I use a lot of old magazines I come across a lot of those paper “Business Reply Mail” postcards that you can send to the publisher and they will start your subscription to the magazine — you know annoying things inside the magazine that are always falling out?

Well…

I came across one from a Us World News & Report Magazine from maybe the 50’s or 60’s (I’m not sure… I honestly had ripped it to shreads in short order as I was searching for collage pieces). It had a an address in Dayton, OH on it but I knew that the permit would have not have been good so I did (not pictured) place a stamp on it.  I doubt that the circulation dept still exists (does the magazine?) but I’m really interested in knowing if the post card actually gets to some one and if so, will they respond?  I placed the URL to this site on the back of the postcard so hopefully some one responds.

I know this isn’t exactly Art through the Mail… but it’s an experiment with artistic tones (whatever that might mean).

19 and beautiful – Outgoing Mail Art Postcard

I have a 2-year-old and a 5-month-old; both boys.  As you may imagine they keep both me and my wife fairly busy.  If you have any children at all, you know that they will occupy your every waking hour at those ages. I’m not complaining, and my beautiful wife does an excellent job with the two little humans as well.  It’s just that I end up making my collages late at night after everyone goes into daily hibernation.  It’s been a good time to unwind and release the creative juices that need to be released onto a nice little postcard – like this one.

FOR THIS little postcard, I used ads from LIFE Magazine, a barcode from my vehicle registration, acrylic paint and a honeycomb stencil (which I feel I need more practice using – perhaps you’ll see it make another appearance soon).   In any case, I have not decided to whom I’ll be sending this fun little collage to, but I hope that it’s enjoyed.

What do you think?  Do you have any criticism? Compliments or complaints?  Feel free to let me know in the comments.

Dear Mom

I get the majority of my creative side from my mom.  I told her about mail art and the IUOMA and so she joined too.  I thought I would send her some mail art, even though she only lives across town. I know that she’ll really enjoy receiving this.  This is a collage I made with old vintage LIFE Magazine ads as well as some found paper objects.  I used these blank postcards I picked up from Amazon.

Please let me know what you think.

Postcard Mail Art

I sent out a fun postcard today called “Given enough time” to a fellow IUOMA member.  This is the first one I have sent out with a “postcard style” where my first few were canvas boards and wrapped in blank newsprint.

Tomorrow I will send out an international postcard and a canvas board that is not wrapped but sent postcard style.  I’ll be sure to post them here.

Picture More Flavor

“Picture More Flavor” – 8″x8″ on canvas board

Here is a parcel I sent just sent out!  The receiver was a suggestion from someone on IUOMA. It’s a collage that features Aluminum Foil and a portrait I found from National Geographic Magazine.  I really like the texture and feel and of the foil. The portrait is fantastic and reminds me of an officer from the Civil War days.
